Paul “KINI” Firmin
Paul “KINI” Firmin (b. 1995, Boston, MA) is Haitian-American traditional artist who began his journey as a painter in 2014. He currently explores both 2D and 3D art, however his most familiar medium is oil/acrylic paint. Paul’s work explores the marriage between the physical and spiritual and reflects on themes like love, consciousness, and duality; in the hopes of better connecting the world through emotion; understanding. He now resides in South Florida and continues developing a practice that doesn't not seek restriction and challenges any urge for objectivity.
My work explores the profound relationship between duality and spirituality through the interplay of light and dark. Using a strictly black-and-white palette, I craft portraits and silhouettes that emerge from the tension between opposing forces: presence and absence, the seen and the unseen, the tangible and the ephemeral. In these compositions, darkness is not a void but a fertile ground—a source of infinite potential. I delve into the shadows to pull forth imagery that feels both familiar and enigmatic.
